Cardboard Art

When the door opened....

I chose to do my cardboard pieces of art a little different. I knew I wanted to design pieces that stood out, but that also represented me as an artist. So the main focus I chose for my pieces, was 3D. So with this in mind, I began to strategically place different pieces of cardboard and paper to veer myself towards unique designs that I thought the eye would be attracted to. I knew this would represent me as an artist because I enjoy thinking outside the box, in this case, literally. And I knew that incorporating 3D aspects into this project would really help my work stand out amongst the others, even though it was required that everyone only use black ink and cardboard.

It took me quite a while to complete this piece, simply because I had to cut and place every single piece of cardboard, one by one. The main color scheme is black and white, but I thought that it would be a little more interesting if I added splashes of colored cardboard, so I did.

I was inspired by Jen Stark to do this piece. It was really interesting to me how she was able to make paper pop out of the canvas/background. So I took her technique, and added my own twist to it, by adding a little sketch on the side, and crinkling the papers.
